A expressão mais ou menos é muito comum no nosso dia a dia e costumamos usar ela com bastante frequência, mas a dúvida que fica é como dizer mais ou menos em inglês?
A verdade é que existem diferentes formas de falar mais ou menos em inglês e neste artigo eu separei 3 formas de falar mais ou menos e como usar cada uma delas da forma correta.

A primeira forma de falar mais ou menos é inglês é usando a expressão more or less.
A expressão more or less é usada principalmente com o sentido de aproximadamente e mais usada para falar de números e quantidades.
Exemplos:
They spent $150 dollars at the supermarket, more or less.
Eles gastaram $150 dólares no supermercado, mais ou menos.
There were only 100 people at school today, more or less.
Havia apenas 100 pessoas na escola hoje, mais ou menos.
Como você pode ver nós não usamos more or less para responder perguntas como “how are you?” (como você está) ou “are you hungry?” (você está com fome?), apenas usamos nas situações comentadas acima.
Um ponto importante para ressaltar é que o more or less deve ser sempre usado no final da frase, depois do número ao qual está se referindo, como nos exemplos.
Apesar de essa ser a primeira expressão que nós costumamos aprender para falar mais ou menos em inglês ela não é tão usada assim.

Outra forma de dizer mais ou menos em inglês é usando a palavra about.
O about é mais frequentemente usado para se referir a números e quantidades, tendo o sentido de aproximadamente ou cerca de, assim como more or less.
O about é usado com mais frequência e pode ser uma alternativa melhor ao more or less, pois passa a mesma ideia nas frases, e é bem mais usado por nativos no dia a dia do que more or less.
Exemplos:
I paid about 700 dollars for each ticket.
Eu paguei cerca de (mais ou menos) 700 dólares por cada passagem.
There were about forty thousand people at the concert last night.
Havia cerca de (mais ou menos) quarenta mil pessoas no show na noite passada.
Kind of e Sort of
Outra forma de falar mais ou menos em inglês é usando as expressões kind of ou sort of.
As expressões kind of e sort of são as que chegam mais perto do mais ou menos que utilizamos no nosso dia a dia.
Usamos mais frequentemente para responder perguntas que podem ser respondidas com sim ou não.
Por exemplo:
A: Are you hungry? (Você está com fome?)
B: Kind of. (Mais ou menos).
A: Are you happy with your new job? (Você está feliz com seu novo trabalho?).
B: Sort of. (Mais ou menos).
Podemos usar também a forma contraída dessas duas expressões:
Kind of = kinda
Sort of = sorta
Exemplo:
A: Do you speak English? (Você fala inglês?).
B: Kinda. (Mais ou menos).
A: Are you happy? (Você está feliz?).
B: Sorta. (Mais ou menos).
Ok e not bad
Outra forma que podemos falar ou passar a ideia de mais ou menos em inglês é usando ok e not bad.
Apesar de não ser essa a tradução literal dessas duas palavras nós também podemos usar essas expressões para passar a ideia de mais ou menos.
Por exemplo:
A: How are you? (Como você está?).
B: I’m ok. (Eu estou ok/mais ou menos).
Outro exemplo:
A: How was the movie? (Como foi o filme?).
B: Not bad. (Mais ou menos/Não foi ruim).
Mais um exemplo:
A: How was your trip? (Como foi sua viagem?).
B: It was ok. (Foi ok/mais ou menos).
É correto usar so so para falar mais ou menos em inglês?
Outra expressão que também significa mais ou menos em inglês é a expressão so so e essa também costuma ser uma das primeiras que aprendemos para falar mais ou menos.
A dúvida que muitos tem sobre essa expressão é se é correto falar so so.
O fato é que essa expressão quase não é utilizada por nativos, para falar a verdade ela praticamente nunca é usada e apesar de estar correta gramaticalmente pode soar bem estranho para um falante nativo, por isso é melhor evitar usá-la.
