Como e quando usar o Past Continuous
O past continuous (passado contínuo) é um tempo verbal utilizado para indicar ações contínuas que aconteceram no passado.
Ou seja, usamos este tempo verbal para descrever ações que estavam acontecendo em algum momento no passado.
Veja alguns exemplos:
It was raining yesterday – Estava chovendo ontem.
My sister was working the whole day. – Minha irmã estava trabalhando o dia inteiro.
I was studying English last night. – Eu estava estudando inglês ontem à noite.
Como formar frases com Past Continuous
Para formarmos frases no Past Continuous nós temos a seguinte estrutura básica:
Sujeito + Verbo to be no Simple Past (was/were) + Verbo principal no gerúndio (ing).

Verbo to be no passado
Confira a conjugação do verbo to be no passado:

Dica extra:
Para que você consiga memorizar com mais facilidade é só você lembrar que só usamos o Was com os pronomes I, He, She, It e nos demais pronomes usaremos sempre Were.
Frases afirmativas
Para formar frases afirmativas no Past Continuous, nós usaremos a estrutura padrão deste tempo verbal:
Sujeito + Verbo to be no Simple Past (was/were) + Verbo principal no gerúndio (ing).
Exemplo:
She was listening to music. – Ela estava ouvindo música.

Frases negativas
Para formar as frases negativas nós temos que acrescentar o Not depois do verbo to be na frase, teremos a seguinte estrutura:
Sujeito + Verbo to be no Simple Past (was/were) + Not + Verbo principal no gerúndio (ing).
Exemplo:
I was not going to my house. – Eu não estava indo para minha casa.
Frases interrogativas
Para fazer perguntas no Past Continuous nós temos que inverter a ordem do sujeito com o verbo to be.
Verbo to be no Simple Past (was/were) + Sujeito + Verbo principal no gerúndio (ing).
Exemplo:
Was he working yesterday? – Ele estava trabalhando ontem?

You were not watching TV when I called you. – Você não estava assistindo TV quando liguei para você.
Was she working when you met her? – Ela estava trabalhando quando você a conheceu?
Were they studying English? – Eles estavam estudando inglês?
Were you playing video game? – Você estava jogando videogame?
Was it raining there? – Estava chovendo lá?
